Fuel Leak Disrupts Operations at Cairo International Airport
A fuel leak in the aircraft refueling lines at Cairo International Airport has led to delays for some flights, according to a source at the airport. The leak occurred within the DHL facility, prompting immediate action to close valves as a precautionary measure.
The source stated that authorities were immediately notified, and specialized teams responded to contain the leak and secure the area. Engineers from the joint fuel depot were also present to assess the situation and implement necessary safety measures.
As a result of the compromised fuel line, the airport has temporarily switched to refueling aircraft using tanker trucks instead of the fixed ground pipelines. This alternative method will remain in effect until repairs are completed and the line’s integrity is fully restored. The disruption reportedly caused delays for a small number of departing flights.
The incident prompted a request for information from Member of Parliament Diaa Daoud, who sought clarification regarding reports of the fuel leak and its impact on flight schedules. In his request, Daoud stated he had learned of the leak and the subsequent reliance on fuel trucks to service aircraft.
Daoud’s inquiry detailed the deployment of eight fuel trucks from the Ministry of Petroleum to address the crisis, which contributed to delays for several airlines. He raised concerns about contingency plans for handling such emergencies within the Ministry of Aviation and Cairo International Airport, as well as the potential negative consequences for travelers.
Daoud further highlighted potential broader issues affecting airport logistics, including a shortage of spare parts for essential equipment. He suggested that these deficiencies could exacerbate delays and hinder the delivery of services, potentially undermining the country’s goal of attracting 25 million tourists annually.
The source at the airport confirmed that all necessary technical procedures are being undertaken to ensure safety during the repair process. The switch to tanker trucks is intended to minimize disruption while the damaged line is fixed and thoroughly inspected.
