Cairo, Egypt – A Cairo Criminal Court has sentenced Karim Muhammad Salim to death for teh murders of three women, rejecting his defense arguments that mental health issues played a role in the crimes. The court, headed by counselor Yasser Al-Ahmadaw, handed down the sentence after a fifth session and ordered the deletion of video clips depicting the murders.
The case, which shocked the nation, began in May when the body of an unidentified woman was discovered on June 30 Road in Port Said Governorate. Forensic investigations, including fingerprint analysis, identified the victim and revealed she was married.
Police investigations led to the arrest of Salim, who confessed to meeting women, taking them to his residence in Kattameyah for drug use, and then killing them after drugging them. He admitted to filming the murders on his two mobile phones.
Further investigation revealed a second victim, whose body was found on the side of the road towards Ismailia Governorate on June 30th. A search of Salim’s phone uncovered video footage of the killing.
The Public Prosecution, resolute to uncover the full extent of Salim’s crimes, reviewed reports of unidentified bodies found in similar circumstances. This led to the revelation of a third victim, whose case was linked to Salim.
Salim was later charged with the murders of all three women. During the trial, his defense team attempted to argue that his mental health and exposure to mental crises contributed to the crimes. Though, the court ultimately rejected these arguments, finding them insufficient to mitigate the severity of his actions.
