Body Found in Lurgan as Search for Missing Woman Concludes

A body has been discovered in Lurgan, County Armagh, as police continue their investigation into the disappearance of 24-year-old Caitlin Green, also known as Caity. The discovery was made in the Princes Street area of Lurgan on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

While formal identification is still pending, police have confirmed that the family of Ms. Green have been informed of the development. Ms. Green had been missing since Saturday, January 31, after she was last seen leaving a friend’s home in the Derry Street/Lord Lurgan Park area of the town around 12:30pm.

The search for Ms. Green involved extensive police efforts, including reviewing CCTV footage and following up on numerous leads and tips from the public. Officers had also appealed to residents to check sheds, garages, and outbuildings on their property as part of the investigation.

According to reports, Ms. Green is a mother of two. Police have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the discovery at this time, stating that enquiries are ongoing.

Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd expressed his deep sadness at the news. “I am deeply saddened by the tragic discovery of a woman’s body in Lurgan today,” O’Dowd said. “My thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and all those who are grieving at this unimaginably difficult time. I know this news will be deeply distressing for the local community. I would respectfully ask that people avoid speculation and allow the PSNI the time and space they need to carry out a full and thorough investigation into the circumstances.”

DUP MP Carla Lockhart also offered her condolences, stating that Ms. Green’s family were facing an “unimaginable loss.” “Our thoughts and prayers are with Caitlin’s family, her friends, and especially her children at this incredibly difficult time,” Lockhart said. “Today, a family is grieving, and they deserve privacy, dignity, and compassion.”

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) had previously asked for the public’s assistance in locating Ms. Green, and a public search had been carried out in the Gilford area, involving Search and Rescue teams and volunteers.

Ulster Unionist MLA Doug Beattie described the news as “terrible.” “Although the identity of the body has yet to be confirmed, my thoughts and prayers are with all those affected,” Beattie said.

The discovery brings a somber end to a search that has gripped the local community. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
