California Fitness & Yoga members across Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are demanding clarity on refunds and membership benefits following temporary club closures and an executive apology video released on Oct. 19, reported Tri Thức – Znews.
How Are Hanoi Members Responding to the Somerset West Point and Mac Plaza Closures?
Members in Hanoi are grappling with sudden facility shutdowns and missing amenities while awaiting concrete restructuring plans. On Oct. 20, a day after California Fitness & Yoga management posted an apology video, Hong Quan received a message stating that the Somerset West Point club in Hanoi would close temporarily from Oct. 22 to Oct. 31 due to “operational issues.”
They keep closing places and I’m confused,
Quân told Tri Thức – Znews. Quan stated that after joining in 2020, his family spent nearly half a billion VND on memberships, and he now wants to know if the gym will continue operating and how unused funds will be managed.
Quan also purchased an unactivated Iconic card worth over 100 million VND with a validity start date of July 2027. When service disruptions began, he requested a refund for this specific package, but he stated that the company rejected his request.
In Ha Dong, Nguyen Bich Ngoc had to switch her workout schedule to her home after the Mac Plaza center temporarily closed. She had spent 30 million VND on a three-year Diamond card valid until 2029 to keep a routine close to home.
What Do Centuryon VIP Members Demand Regarding Their Long-Term Benefits?
VIP members holding high-tier packages are questioning whether their exclusive perks will survive the chain’s operational restructuring. In Ho Chi Minh City, Alice Pham experienced mixed feelings after watching the Oct. 19 apology video while holding a smoothie from her Centuryon package at the Vo Van Ngan club.
I feel heartbroken and angry, like after a breakup with an ex. I’ve been going to the gym for over 10 years and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to trust them again.
she said.
In 2016, Alice spent 250 million VND on a Centuryon membership that included five years of initial use and an annual maintenance fee of 23 million VND starting in the sixth year. With the chain introducing cheaper packages that grant wider access, she has asked the company to clarify the differences in terms and user conditions, stating she wants to receive the value she pays for.
Another Ho Chi Minh City member, Dai Trinh, questioned whether member benefits will remain intact without extra fees if subscribers are transferred from smaller facilities to larger ones. He also requested that refund conditions, calculation methods, and payment deadlines be clearly clarified by the company.
What Did Dane Fort and Management Promise in the Oct. 19 Apology Video?
Dane Fort, on behalf of California Fitness & Yoga management, issued an apology to members, employees, partners, and suppliers in a video published on Oct. 19. He acknowledged that the company pursued growth beyond the capacity of its operating system, leading to unaddressed operational shortcomings.

The images of Dane Fort, CEO of California Fitness & Yoga, while he went to a gym to apologize to customers, were published on the gym chain’s Facebook page on October 21.
Following the apology, the chain announced it would suspend surcharges for select yoga and GroupX classes while reviewing schedules. The company also pledged to prioritize the maintenance and gradual restoration of towels, drinking water, and parking assistance based on the conditions at each center, though the video provided no specific timeline for simultaneous service restoration.
When Will the 30-Day Restructuring Plan Conclude and What Happens Next?
Management has requested an additional 30 days to finalize a comprehensive restructuring roadmap, identify resources, assign responsibilities, and set deadlines. Once this 30-day period concludes, the company plans to make its progress, completed activities, and unresolved issues public.
Impacted members continue to await individual solutions tailored to their specific contracts. Quan seeks clear answers regarding his unactivated 100-million-VND Iconic card, Ngoc needs a viable training alternative through 2029, and long-term VIP clients require formal guarantees protecting the tier-specific advantages they originally purchased.
