High School Basketball Playoffs: City and Southern Section Results

The CIF City and Southern Section boys’ and girls’ basketball playoffs continued Saturday with quarterfinal and second-round games determining who advances in the pursuit of a championship. Several contests were decided by narrow margins, setting the stage for exciting semifinals and finals in the coming weeks.

City Section – Girls

In the City Section girls’ Division I quarterfinals, #1 El Camino Real defeated #9 Garfield 45-28. #4 Eagle Rock topped #5 Arleta 50-34, while #3 San Pedro secured a 47-38 victory over #6 Grant. #2 Granada Hills Kennedy advanced with a 53-41 win against #7 Verdugo Hills.

Division II saw #1 Harbor Teacher dominate #8 Larchmont Charter 58-19. #5 West Adams edged out #4 Triumph Charter 30-27, and #3 Santee prevailed over #11 South East 43-38. #2 North Hollywood won a close contest against #7 New West Charter, 51-49.

The Division III quarterfinals featured #8 Diego Rivera facing #1 Washington Prep, with the result pending as of this report. #4 LA Marshall defeated #5 Sun Valley Poly 47-20, #3 San Fernando won against #11 Animo Robinson 44-30, and #2 Gardena beat #7 Crenshaw 40-24.

In Division 1, #1 Ventura defeated Bishop Montgomery 50-40, Windward defeated #8 Flintridge Prep 64-49, #5 Valencia defeated Mira Costa 81-56, Troy defeated #4 Brentwood 61-48, #3 Moreno Valley defeated St. Bonaventure 69-39, #6 Orange Lutheran defeated Marlborough 55-48, #7 Villa Park defeated Santa Margarita 58-45, and #2 La Salle defeated St. Anthony 48-42.

Semifinals are scheduled for February 21, with finals taking place February 27-28.
