Firefighters have reached 45% containment of the Springs Fire in Moreno Valley, Riverside County, as of Saturday, April 4, 2026. The brush fire, which broke out on the morning of Friday, April 3, 2026, rapidly expanded to burn over 4,100 acres.
The blaze originated on Gilman Springs Road during a period of high winds. The National Weather Service had issued a Wind Advisory for the region, which was subsequently extended through 3 p.m. On Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Containment and Suppression Efforts
Containment of the fire stood at 25% late Friday evening before increasing to 45% by Saturday. A Saturday morning update indicated that the blaze held at just over 4,100 acres as crews made progress overnight.
Suppression operations involved a coordinated effort between Cal Fire and several other regional agencies, including the Riverside city, Hemet, and Pechanga fire departments. Deployment included 23 engines and 105 firefighters, supported by two hand crews and two air tanks.
Evacuations and Public Safety
Cal Fire issued evacuation orders for several neighborhoods within the region. As of 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, April 4, 2026, officials stated that all evacuation warnings remained in place and were being continually reassessed.
The City of Moreno Valley established the following evacuation sites:
- For residents: Valley View High School, 13135 Nason St., Moreno Valley
- For animals: San Jacinto Animal Shelter, 581 S. Grand Ave., San Jacinto; and Moreno Valley Animal Services, 14041 Elsworth St., Moreno Valley
No injuries have been reported in connection with the fire. Cal Fire stated that the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
