As the New York Knicks continue their search for a new coach after firing Tom Thibodeau,arkansas coach john Calipari has addressed speculation linking him to the NBA team. Calipari acknowledged the Knicks’ vacancy is appealing but affirmed his commitment to the Razorbacks.
“I’m coaching at Arkansas,” Calipari said on the FanDuel Sports Network, dismissing rumors. “But they have a great organization, they got a terrific team.But it’s not for everybody… You have everything you need to win, and you have New York City. So, someone’s going to get a hell of a job.”
Calipari’s name frequently enough surfaces in NBA coaching searches, given his college success and track record of developing players for the pros. He has led four programs to the Sweet 16, including Arkansas last season.
He signed a five-year contract with Arkansas last spring, following a successful tenure at Kentucky, were he won a national championship in 2012. calipari is considered a top offensive mind in college basketball.
The Knicks’ coaching search has encountered obstacles. They were reportedly denied permission to interview Jason Kidd and Quin Snyder. Chicago also blocked New York’s attempt to speak with Billy Donovan,as did Minnesota with coach Chris Finch and houston with Ime Udoka.
Thibodeau’s firing followed the Knicks’ first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 25 years. Reports suggest the decision stemmed from concerns about player usage and maximizing the roster’s potential.
“I’ve been at Arkansas one year. People are totally committed and committed to me, personally,” Calipari said.
