Calle Jarnkrok Undergoes Surgery, Out for Extended Period
Calle Jarnkrok had surgery for a groin issue and a sports hernia on Monday. He will be out for an indefinite time with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The 33-year-old forward has not played this season. He visited a specialist in New York last week after his rehabilitation did not show improvement.
Jarnkrok struggled with this injury during training camp, missing several practices and failing to score in two preseason games.
Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube remarked, “It’s tough on Jarnkrok from camp. He needs to get this fixed and will be out for a while. We like him as a player. He can help us, but he hasn’t had the chance.”
Berube remains hopeful that Jarnkrok might return later this season, depending on his recovery.
Last season, Jarnkrok scored 21 points, with 10 goals and 11 assists in 52 games. He has played for the Nashville Predators, Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames, and Maple Leafs, and has a total of 301 points in 699 regular-season games. He has also participated in 93 Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring 22 points.
Jarnkrok signed a four-year contract with the Maple Leafs on July 15, 2022, with an average annual value of $2.1 million.
