Cambodia Withdraws from Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle
Cambodian People’s Party President Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced that Cambodia will withdraw from the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA), effective September 20, 2024.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), made the announcement after discussing with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and other national leaders. “As CPP President, I have discussed with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and other national leaders. And we have decided that Cambodia will terminate its participation in the CLV-DTA from September 20, 2024,” Mr. Hun Sen said.
The Royal Government of Cambodia has officially informed Vietnam and Laos of the decision. The CLV-DTA was proposed in 1999 to maintain economic, social, and national security, with each country controlling its own territory. The initiative aims to promote growth, <a href="https://newsdirectory3com/government-spokesman-reveals-that-the-prime-minister-will-hand-over-sukpracha-housing-house-to-low-income-people-tomorrow/” title=”Government spokesman reveals that the prime minister will hand over "Sukpracha Housing House" to low-income people tomorrow.”>development, and stability in the border areas of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.
Mr. Hun Sen stated that the withdrawal from the CLV-DTA was to prevent the opposition group from exploiting this initiative. “The opposition group may use this as an excuse to deceive the people and incite social chaos,” he added.
Prime Minister Hun Manet previously stated that 66 people were arrested for participating in a planned riot on August 18 in Phnom Penh against CLV-DTA, with their hidden plot to overthrow the legitimate government.
