Cam’ron reveals “I Really Mean It” Was Originally for Lil’ Kim
Before it became a Dipset anthem and a signature song for Cam’ron, “I Really Mean it” was intended for Lil’ Kim.Cam’ron recently shared this revelation on his sports talk show, It Is What It Is.
According to cam’ron, he specifically envisioned Lil’ Kim, a key figure in hip-hop, performing the track. However, she ultimately turned it down. “I did write a song for Lil’ kim and she didn’t want it, and the lyrics changed, and I ended up keeping it for myself,” Cam’ron said.
The Harlem rapper expressed gratitude that Kim rejected the song. “That’s one of the best things, ’cause that’s one of my close-out songs, to be totally honest with you, and she didn’t want the song. I’m happy she didn’t.”
Cam’ron and Lil’ Kim’s history of creative collaboration dates back to 1996. He wrote “Crush On You,” featuring Lil cease, which appeared on Kim’s debut album, Hard Core. Produced by Andreao “Fanatic” Heard, this track marked Cam’ron’s frist foray into ghostwriting.
In the same episode, Cam’ron also disclosed his involvement in writing 3LW’s popular single, “No More (Baby I’ma do Right).” The song peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2000.
“I wrote for 3 Little Women. The single, I’m in the credits, I wrote that. ‘promises, promises’? That’s me,” Cam’ron confirmed.
