Before it became a Dipset anthem and a signature song for Cam’ron, “I Really Mean it” was intended for Lil’ Kim.Cam’ron ‍recently shared this revelation on his sports talk show, It Is What It Is.

According to cam’ron, he specifically envisioned Lil’ Kim, a key‍ figure in hip-hop, performing ‍the track. However, she ultimately⁢ turned it down. “I did write a song for Lil’ ⁢kim and she didn’t want it, and the lyrics changed, and I ended up keeping it for myself,” Cam’ron said.

The Harlem rapper expressed gratitude that Kim rejected the song. “That’s one of the best things, ’cause‍ that’s one of my close-out⁣ songs, to be totally honest with you, and she ⁤didn’t want the song. I’m happy she didn’t.”

Cam’ron and Lil’ Kim’s history of creative collaboration dates back to⁤ 1996. He⁣ wrote “Crush On You,” featuring Lil cease, which appeared on Kim’s debut album, Hard Core. Produced by Andreao “Fanatic” Heard, this track marked Cam’ron’s frist foray into ghostwriting.
