Canada’s national men’s basketball team continued its impressive run at the FIBA AmeriCup tournament on Saturday, defeating panama 99-49.The Canadians established a commanding lead early, outscoring Panama 33-16 in the first quarter and never relinquishing control. This victory improves Canada’s record to 2-0 in Group B.
Group B Standings and Upcoming Matchups
Puerto Rico also remains undefeated in group B, having defeated Venezuela 97-70 earlier on Saturday. Canada will face Puerto Rico on monday in a crucial matchup to determine the top seed in the round-robin pool. Panama and Venezuela,both currently winless,will also play on monday.
Key Performances Lead Canada to Success
Nate Darling spearheaded Canada’s offensive effort with a game-high 22 points. Leonard Miller, Mfiondu Kabengele, and Kyle Wiltjer each contributed 13 points to the scoring attack. Wiltjer also demonstrated strong rebounding skills, securing nine boards, while Charles Bediako added eight rebounds.
For Panama, Luis Rodriguez Jr. led the team with 10 points, followed by Guillermo Navarro with nine. Aaron Gedeon recorded five rebounds in the losing effort.
