Burns had earlier carded a stellar 8-under 62, including nine birdies, to seize the clubhouse lead. However,Fox responded with a final-round 66,highlighted by a crucial birdie on the 18th,forcing the playoff. The par-5 18th served as the sudden-death playoff hole.
