Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes prepared a massive five-piece package to acquire Kirill Marchenko from the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to recent reporting by hockey insider Frank Seravalli on Frankly Hockey.danslescoulisses.com reported that the proposed deal for the Russian forward included two NHL forwards, one NHL defenseman, a first-round draft pick, and a conditional selection that could also become a first-rounder.
Potential Pursuit of Dylan Larkin
Building on that previous trade blueprint, Seravalli indicated on October 13, 2026, that Montreal could assemble an even more generous offer if the franchise turns its attention toward Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin. Because Larkin would directly address the team’s ongoing search for a reliable second-line center, the front office might aggressively pursue a deal to secure him.
I think back to the package that Montreal offered for Kirill Marchenko. […] So a five piece package that was for Marchenko knowing how Larkin would solve their problems like they might be more amendable, not that it’s a huge problem, but they might be more amendable to making this sweeter to make it work. And I think they’re aggressive would aggressively pursue making that.

Despite the speculation surrounding Montreal’s willingness to pay a steep price, any potential transaction remains contingent on whether Larkin actually wants to relocate to the Canadiens.
Gleb Pugachyov Seeks Offensive Rhythm
Meanwhile, 2026 first-round draft pick Gleb Pugachyov is navigating a difficult start to his season in the MHL. The Russian winger, prized by the organization for his physical brand of hockey, has recorded just one point in seven games. danslescoulisses.com noted that Pugachyov missed valuable preparation time last month due to a concussion, complicating his early adjustment at the junior level.
Matvei Michkov Struggles in Philadelphia
In Philadelphia, forward Matvei Michkov has encountered a slow start to the campaign following optimistic projections over the summer. Michkov has produced only two goals across his first seven appearances while logging limited ice time, including 12 minutes and 54 seconds of action in a recent game. The young forward also temporarily cleared or hid his Instagram posts, drawing additional outside attention amidst a difficult stretch for the entire Flyers roster.

Unresolved Roster Questions Moving Forward
As the early-season schedule unfolds, several key questions remain open across the league. It is still unknown whether the Canadiens will formalize their reported interest in Larkin with an official offer to Detroit, how quickly Pugachyov can regain his scoring touch in Russia following his recovery, and whether Michkov can reverse his offensive slump as the Flyers look to stabilize their lineup.
