Candice Bergen is set to appear in the third season of Apple TV+’s “Shrinking,” joining series regulars Harrison Ford and guest star Michael J. Fox. Co-creator Bill Lawrence revealed the news at the ATX TV Festival in Austin.
Lawrence, speaking at the “Bill Lawrence and Friends” event, mentioned Bergen’s casting while discussing his past work with Fox on “Spin City.” He expressed his admiration for Fox and the inspiring way he lives his life.
Bergen’s role in “Shrinking” remains undisclosed. The show, co-created by Lawrence, Brett Goldstein, and jason Segel, follows therapist Jimmy (Segel) as he navigates grief and makes unconventional changes in his patients’ lives.
In addition to Fox and Bergen, Season 3 will feature Jeff Daniels, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez. Bergen’s recent television appearances include roles in “And Just Like That” and “The Conners.”

“He’s one of the greatest people I’ve ever met,” Lawrence said of Fox. “He’s one of my mentors. And man, what an inspiring dude, the way he’s living his life. So to get to have him back, working with him… I didn’t expect to have career highlights at this point in my career and I was on set about 10 days ago watching Harrison Ford and Mike Fox and Candice Bergen — oh a spoiler!”
Lawrence also shared an anecdote about working with Fox on “Spin City,” recalling how Fox playfully teased him after a joke he was confident in fell flat with the audience. This experience, Lawrence said, taught him valuable lessons about collaboration and taking creative risks.
The ATX TV Festival panel also included Zach Braff (“Scrubs”), brett Goldstein (“Shrinking,” “Ted Lasso”), Josh Hopkins (“Cougar Town,” “Shrinking”), Phil Dunster (“Ted Lasso”), and Charly Clive.
What’s next
Braff is involved in Lawrence’s potential “Scrubs” revival at ABC. He emphasized the close bond among the cast and their enthusiasm for revisiting the show. Braff is also directing an episode of Lawrence’s upcoming HBO series starring steve Carell.
