Cannabis is increasingly used to manage pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune conditions, a new survey reveals. The study, conducted by Filippo Fagni at the University Hospital Erlangen, found that over 75% of the 651 respondents reported chronic pain.
While frequently enough associated with rheumatoid arthritis, cannabis also provides relief for:
- Spondyloarthritides: Inflammatory conditions affecting the spine and joints.
- Collagenoses: Diseases impacting connective tissue.
The survey indicated younger men and those with spondyloarthritides are more likely to use cannabis, possibly due to the intensity of their pain. Only 3% of respondents actively sought alternatives to cannabis for pain management.
