Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident, a critical examination of contemporary Iranian life, received the Palme d’Or. Panahi has faced government opposition, risking his freedom. Jury president Juliette Binoche praised the film’s “feeling of resistance” as essential.
The jury, including actors Jeremy Strong and halle Berry, recognized other political narratives. nadia Melliti, in her debut, won best actress for Hafsia Herzi’s The Little Sister, portraying a Parisian-algerian woman navigating cultural constraints and self-discovery.
