Jason Thornburg, 44, received a death sentence in Tarrant County, Texas, after a jury found him guilty of capital
murder in the deaths of three individuals. The sentence was handed down after a trial that revealed disturbing
details of the crimes.
Thornburg was convicted of the murders of david Lueras,42,Maricruz Mathis,33,and Lauren Phillips,34. The
murders occurred over a seven-day period in September 2021 at the Mid City Inn in Euless, Texas. Prosecutors
argued, and the jury agreed, that Thornburg lured each victim to his motel room before killing them.
Evidence presented at trial showed Thornburg slit the throats of two victims and strangled Phillips. He then
dismembered the bodies in the motel bathtub,storing the remains in plastic bags. Authorities said Thornburg
dumped the remains in a skip in Fort Worth before setting them on fire.
investigators identified Thornburg as a suspect after reviewing CCTV footage that showed his Jeep Grand Cherokee
near the location where the bodies were dumped. Further investigation revealed that Thornburg had meticulously
cleaned the plastic containers used to transport the body parts and returned them to the store where he bought
them.
During the trial, Thornburg claimed the murders were religiously motivated sacrifices. However, the jury
rejected this claim, concluding that Thornburg posed a continuing threat to society.The jury deliberated for
five hours before reaching a unanimous verdict.
following the verdict, the judge formally sentenced Thornburg to death. The case will now undergo an automatic

In a separate growth, Thornburg allegedly confessed to police that he was involved in two additional
homicides. He claimed obligation for the death of his roommate, Mark Jewell, 61, who died in a suspicious
house explosion in May 2021, and the death of his ex-girlfriend, Tanya begay, in Arizona in 2017.
