Apple TV+ to Premiere ‘Cape Fear’ Remake This June, Starring Javier Bardem and Amy Adams
Apple TV+ is set to release a 10-episode remake of the Martin Scorsese thriller Cape Fear this June, with new episodes debuting on Fridays, according to announcements made earlier this week. The series stars Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, and Javier Bardem.
The series, described as a psychological thriller, is “inspired by” Scorsese’s 1991 film, which itself was an adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s 1962 novel The Executioners. Both Steven Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film, and Scorsese are producers on the Apple TV+ series.
Javier Bardem will portray Max Cady, “a notorious killer” who seeks revenge on attorneys Anna Bowden (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) after they were responsible for his imprisonment. According to Apple, the premise centers on “a storm…coming for happily married attorneys” as Cady is released from prison and enacts his plan for vengeance.
The cast also includes CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov. This marks the third adaptation of MacDonald’s novel; the original 1962 film starred Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, while the 1991 remake featured Nick Nolte and Robert De Niro in the lead roles.
The series will premiere on .
