Capital Rx Acquires Amino Health to Expand Care Navigation Services

Capital Rx, a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), has acquired amino Health, a care navigation company, according to a Wednesday announcement. The acquisition of Amino Health aims to bolster Capital Rx’s suite of health benefit solutions and care navigation services.
Capital Rx, based in New York City, offers health benefit solutions to various entities, including carriers, health plans, and employer groups. Amino Health, headquartered in San Francisco, focuses on helping health plan members make informed decisions about healthcare providers and procedures.
through this acquisition, Amino Health will transition into Capital Rx’s care navigation solution, known as Judi Care. This platform will provide health plan members with a centralized hub to manage their benefits, access provider cost and quality data, schedule appointments, and explore drug benefits. Judi Care is expected to support approximately 60 million covered lives, enhancing the pharmacy benefit services offered by Capital Rx.
AJ Loiacono, CEO of Capital Rx, stated that the acquisition allows employers to tap into a thorough suite of services beyond pharmacy benefits. This includes an infrastructure for designing benefits programs and a patient-facing navigation solution powered by Amino Health, enhancing care navigation.
John Asalone, CEO of Amino Health, will join Capital Rx as executive vice president of Judi Care. The entire Amino team will also transition to Capital Rx. Asalone emphasized that this deal addresses the challenge of managing multiple point solutions for employers, streamlining health plan management.
“Employers need a better underlying technology that allows them to plug and play, adapting their health plan in real time as employee demands and budgets shift,” Asalone said.
Loiacono said that capital Rx aims to reduce friction for health plan members and facilitate access to optimal, cost-effective care. He believes the company is well-positioned to support employers and HR leaders in simplifying health plan development and governance.
