Super Typhoon Capricorn Update: Gale or Storm Signal No. ⁣8 Issued

As of 6 p.m., Super Typhoon Capricorn is located approximately 340 kilometers south ​of Hong Kong, with sustained winds of about 210 kilometers per hour. The typhoon‍ is ‍expected to move west-northwest at a speed of about 15⁣ kilometers per hour, passing near⁣ the Leizhou Peninsula to Hainan Island area.

According to⁣ current forecasts, Capricorn will maintain super typhoon intensity and pass about 300 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong early tomorrow morning. The gale area related ⁤to⁤ Capricorn is expected to affect the ​Pearl River Estuary area from tonight to tomorrow morning.

  • At 5 p.m., the highest ⁣sustained wind speeds recorded at Ngong Ping, Waglan‌ Island, ⁢and Cheung Chau Beach were 69, 65, and 58 kilometers per hour respectively.
  • The Observatory stated that‍ Capricorn has matured, ‍with strong ⁢winds blowing ‍in many places in⁢ Hong Kong, and strong winds occasionally blowing offshore and in highlands.
  • The strong rainbands associated with Capricorn will gradually ‌affect Hong Kong later​ today, with strong winds and heavy showers expected tomorrow.
