Carbon Capture Hits Pause: What’s Behind the Sudden Suspension of its Ambitious DAC Project
Carbon Capture Announces Update on Technology Developments and Project Suspension
On August 30, climate technology company Carbon Capture released a statement outlining their current plans, including positive news about the company’s technology developments, as well as announcing the suspension of their DAC (direct air capture) project, Project Bison.
Key Success Factors for Sustainable Profits
The company is focusing on several key success factors to utilize DAC and achieve sustainable profits. First, continued commitment to materials science is important, and the company has been developing advanced structured adsorbents in collaboration with materials science firm WL Gore & Associates.
Commercial Module and Manufacturing Facility
The company has also announced a full-scale commercial module for its Leo series of DAC modules, and production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024 at its advanced manufacturing facility in Arizona.
Location Strategy for DAC Deployment
The company is focusing on locations where clean energy and carbon transportation and storage infrastructure can be secured to deploy DAC. However, due to increasing competition in clean energy, development has become difficult, especially in Wyoming, and the company has decided to suspend the deployment of its DAC project, Project Bison, and move its first commercial project elsewhere.
