Cardi B is keeping the momentum going with the rollout for her highly anticipated sophomore album, AM I THE DRAMA? The Grammy-winning rapper just announced her next pre-release single, “Imaginary Players,” and it’s already sparking excitement – and a whole lot of fan theories.
A New Single & A familiar Title
On Monday (August 11th), cardi B revealed the upcoming single, set to drop this Friday, August 15th.She shared the stunning cover art, featuring her posing confidently in front of a white Rolls-Royce, perfectly complemented by a matching white fur coat. “Just a lil’ taste of the drama,” she teased to her followers.
But it’s the song’s title that’s really got people talking. “Imaginary Players” is the exact same title as a track from JAY-Z’s classic 1996 album, In My Lifetime, Vol. 1. Is this a coincidence? Or is Cardi B giving us a hint of a sample, interpolation, or collaboration? The internet is buzzing with speculation, and we’ll have to wait until Friday to find out for sure.
AM I THE DRAMA? – What We No So Far
AM I THE DRAMA? has been a long time coming – seven years, to be exact. Cardi B first dropped a tantalizing trailer back in June, promising a new era. “I’m not back, I’m beyond. I’m not your villain, I’m your karma. The time is here. The time is now,” she declared, setting the stage for a bold and dramatic return.
Since than, she’s steadily built anticipation, revealing the album’s striking cover art and teasing snippets of new music. We’ve already gotten a taste of “Outside” and heard a preview of another track during her electrifying appearance at WWE SummerSlam.
During the summerslam preview, Cardi rapped a catchy snippet: “I’m turnt up at the party / I’m geeking out my body / She shake and clap it for me / These b*ches love some Cardi.” It’s a taste of the energy we can expect from the full album.
A Trip Down Memory Lane (and Chart History)
Cardi isn’t just serving up new material; she’s also revisiting some of her biggest hits. AM I THE DRAMA? will include fan favorites like “WAP” and “Up.” She explained her decision to include these tracks, saying she’d heard from fans requesting them for an album release and noticed they were frequently searched for on her debut album, Invasion of Privacy. “They deserve a home,” she stated, and who can argue with that? These songs are undeniable cultural moments and cemented Cardi B’s place in music history.
Potential Collaboration with SZA?
The excitement doesn’t stop there! SZA herself jumped into the comments on Cardi B’s Instagram, offering to lay down a verse. “Lemme send this verse, chile,” she wrote, sending fans into a frenzy.
