Carl Lundström, 64, a Swedish entrepreneur and figure associated with the far-right, who was pursued by Swedish authorities for debts totaling 128 million kronor, has died in a plane crash in Slovenia.
The crash occurred this week.
Simultaneously occurring, figures within the Swedish far-right are expressing gratitude for the support he provided over the years, including financial contributions.

The ideas he fought for, the projects he built, and the legacy he leaves behind will inspire future generations,
writes the far-right online publication frihetsnytt regarding the death of its founder, Carl Lundström, in a plane crash in Slovenia on Monday.
Lundström was piloting the small, privately owned propeller plane from Croatia toward Switzerland, where he had emigrated in 2008 after facing demands for millions in connection with the Pirate Bay file-sharing case.
For reasons still unclear, the plane crashed into a mountain cabin on Velika Planina in Slovenia.
The Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden) was seeking Lundström for payment of debts in Sweden amounting to 127,720,305 kronor. Most of these debts are linked to damages awarded in the Pirate Bay case, where Lundström was sentenced to one year in prison for aiding and abetting violations of copyright law. Though, the debts also include a congestion charge from a visit to Sweden in 2020.
According to an investigation by the Enforcement Authority, completed in the spring of 2023, Lundström had no attachable assets in Sweden, and it was noted that he resided in Switzerland, known for its financial laws.
Attempts to contact the debtor have been made with payment requests without result. Further attempts are not considered essential for the investigation,
the Enforcement Authority stated.
However, the Swedish authorities continued to send annual payment reminders for the damages, which increased with interest.

Zurich’s Business District
On July 29 of last year, the last payment reminder was sent in a letter to Lundström’s home address in a 19th-century building in Zurich’s commercial center.
There was no response.
Pontus Toresson, section chief for the Enforcement Authority, stated that those seeking payment are individual claimants for 99.9% of the debt, and they have been able to seek payment from him in Switzerland during these years. This also applies if there is now an estate.
Where the claims should be directed depends on where the assets of the estate may be located.
The cases were received in the late 2000s or early 2010s, and investigations have been conducted at regular intervals without finding anything in Sweden.
“An Enormous Shock”
While Swedish authorities pursued lundström, he was involved in various projects within the far-right movement from Switzerland, a movement he had been active in since the mid-1980s.
Eva Donell, board member of the far-right Blågula Foundation, which aims to support various forms of nationalist projects on the far-right, said that it was an enormous shock that he passed away very tragically.
According to the foundation’s website, it distributes grants and scholarships to, among other things, “Swedish-amiable musicians, historians, poets, visual artists, and writers” and to news portals and newspapers that operate in the same spirit.

Inherited Wasa Millions
Recipients of funds include the Freedom Movement, which emerged as a far-right organization for conspiracy theorists during the COVID-19 pandemic, the xenophobic local party Malmölistan, and a project to build a database of “criminal extremists” to facilitate the mapping of “political violence in Sweden.”
Eva Donell said that he was actually a really good person and confirmed that Carl Lundström both contributed to the foundation financially and was its initiator.
The foundation for Lundström’s wealth was laid through the inheritance from his father, who was the founder of the crispbread brand Wasabröd. When the company was sold to the Swiss company Sandoz AG in the 1980s, Carl and his siblings each received 77 million kronor.
