Carlie Irsay-Gordon Takes Hands-On Approach as Colts Owner

Updated June 16, 2025

INDIANAPOLIS — Carlie Irsay-Gordon, the new principal owner of the Indianapolis Colts, is making her presence known. Unlike some NFL owners, Irsay-Gordon regularly attends team meetings, including those of the special teams unit, demonstrating a commitment to understanding all facets of the organization.

Reggie Wayne, the Colts’ receivers coach, noted Irsay-Gordon’s consistent involvement. “She’s all around this place,” Wayne said, emphasizing her long-standing dedication to the team.

Irsay-Gordon’s involvement extends to meetings with coaches and players, personnel discussions, and even observing from the sidelines during games, where she listens to coach communications and reviews playcall sheets.

Special teams coordinator Brian mason appreciates Irsay-Gordon’s viewpoint. “She’s been in a majority of my meetings as I’ve been here,” Mason stated, adding that her insights help ensure clarity and understanding across the team.

Mason clarified that Irsay-Gordon’s questions aren’t intrusive but serve as valuable checks on interaction effectiveness. “You’re like,’Oh,wow,if that didn’t make sense [to her],maybe there’s other people that that didn’t reach as well,'” he explained.

Following the passing of her father, Jim Irsay, the transition of ownership to Irsay-Gordon and her sisters, Kalen Jackson and Casey Foyt, has been closely watched. However, sources indicate no anticipated changes to Irsay-Gordon’s engaged leadership style.

Coach Shane Steichen supports Irsay-Gordon’s active role. “You’ve got to know what’s going on as an owner,” Steichen said.”For her to be on the sidelines,I think its a great deal so she knows exactly what’s going on.”

Irsay-Gordon believes that direct involvement provides crucial insights. “I need to be able to say, ‘Is this person full of B.S.? do they even know what they’re talking about?'” she said, highlighting the complexity of a football team’s operations.

She cited examples where her observations revealed miscommunications, such as identifying incorrect play calls rather than blaming receivers for running wrong routes.

“That’s been very valuable,” Irsay-Gordon stated. “It helps us be able to know, where do we need to make tweaks? What resources do we need? What do we need to fix? … I would suggest it for anyone else that has to pay coaches and GMs million and millions of dollars. It helps you make a less expensive mistake potentially.”

Irsay-Gordon’s increased focus on management and administration has led to significant personnel changes on the business side. She is also becoming more influential in football-related decisions.

Ultimately, Irsay-Gordon’s goal is to be well-informed. As Mason put it,”It’s just a situation where she’s fully involved in the success of the organization.”

What’s next

Irsay-Gordon’s hands-on approach will likely continue as the Colts move forward, with her active participation shaping team strategies and personnel decisions.
