Carlos Yulo and the Philippine gymnastics team will head to Japan for a crucial two-week training camp ahead of the 2026 Asian Games, according to reports from Manila Bulletin and Pilipino Star Ngayon. The two-week camp will take place prior to the artistic gymnastics competition scheduled for September 20 to 24 at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium, as reported by Manila Bulletin. Carlos Yulo stated that the squad plans to arrive in Japan well in advance of the official events. “Right now we’re preparing po our training camp before we go to Asian Games, mauuna kami doon ng two weeks for training camp,” Carlos Yulo said, according to Manila Bulletin. Pilipino Star Ngayon noted that the Aichi-Nagoya Asiad spans from September 19 through October 4, 2026. “Hopefully maging safe. ‘Yun lang naman palagi ko ding dasal po sana mag-perform kami sa ninanais naming performance. And sana makauwi kami ng medals for the Philippines,” Carlos Yulo added, as reported by Manila Bulletin. The Yulo Brothers Share the Asian Games Stage
This year’s Asian Games carry unique significance for Carlos Yulo, who will compete alongside his younger brother, Eldrew Yulo. Although the siblings previously shared the podium by winning gold and bronze in the floor exercise at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships last June, this marks their first time competing together on the Asian Games stage, according to Manila Bulletin. “Of course, this is not our first time sharing the podium na. It’s going to be the second. But this is the first time for us sharing the podium for Asian Games po. So I’m really excited,” Carlos Yulo said, as quoted by Manila Bulletin. The 26-year-old two-time Olympic gold medalist missed the previous Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, in 2023 because it coincided with the world championships that served as a qualifier for the Paris Olympics. During his Asian Games debut in 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia, Carlos Yulo finished fourth in the men’s vault and seventh in the floor exercise, according to Pilipino Star Ngayon. Those exact events later served as his golden pathway at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where he secured two historic gold medals. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Eldrew Yulo is set to compete in two events during the Aichi-Nagoya Asiad, according to Pilipino Star Ngayon. Full Roster Prepares for Nagoya Competition
The Philippine gymnastics team features a broad lineup across multiple disciplines for the upcoming Asiad. Pilipino Star Ngayon reported that the men’s artistic gymnastics team includes Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Juancho Miguel Besana, SEA Games double bronze medalist Justine Ace De Leon, and Fil-Am Zachary Nunez alongside the Yulo brothers. In the women’s division, Paris Olympian Levi Ruivivar will lead the artistic gymnastics squad, supported by teammates Kylee Kvamme, Chiara Dawn Andrew, Lauren Supnet, and Haylee Garcia, according to Pilipino Star Ngayon. The rhythmic gymnastics delegation features Breanna Labadan and Jasmine Ramilo, while Jerry Ilano Jr. and Luvicar Janine Padilla are slated to compete in men’s trampoline, as detailed by Pilipino Star Ngayon.
