The 27-year-old from Valencia defeated Jesper de Jong, the No. 2 seed,in the Murcia final with a score of 7-6 (3),4-6,6-2,in two hours and 28 minutes,capping off an impressive week.
Taberner, a former member of the Spanish United Cup team, began the year reaching the semifinals of the ATP challenger in Punta del Este, Uruguay, where he lost to Marcelo Barrios Vera of Chile. Shortly after, he advanced to the quarterfinals in Piracicaba, Brazil, losing to Gustavo Heide.
