Carlow Farmer Wins Global Photography Award
Local Farmer Achieves International Photography Excellence
A local farmer has been recognized internationally for his photography, culminating in a prestigious excellence award. Gilbert, whose last name has not been publicly released, balances his agricultural work with a passion for capturing the natural world through his lens.

A Journey to Photographic Recognition
Gilbert’s photographic pursuits have taken him to diverse locations, including Iceland in February of this year, where he successfully photographed the Northern Lights. He and his wife are planning a similar trip to Scotland later in 2024.He also makes an annual trip to Kinsale, Ireland, with the goal of photographing wild deer during their mating season.
He began pursuing international recognition during the COVID-19 lockdown, viewing it as a personal challenge. In 2022, he achieved his Artist FIAP (Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique) award.
the Path to Excellence
The excellence award, the next level of distinction within FIAP, required a significant body of work. Gilbert needed at least 250 photographs accepted for inclusion in exhibitions or catalogues across 20 different countries and 30 different camera clubs (salons), featuring a minimum of 50 unique images.
Starting in June 2024, Gilbert successfully had 278 photographs accepted and received approximately 50 awards.His photograph, titled ““, won a FIAP Gold award at an Indian camera club in 2023.
Beyond Wildlife: A Farmer’s Perspective
Gilbert’s photographic interests extend beyond wildlife to include landscapes and macrophotography, allowing him to capture intricate details of subjects like mushrooms. He views farmers, including himself, as “custodians of the land” and is dedicated to promoting respect for the environment to ensure its sustainability for future generations.
