Carlow Girl Aims to Save the Planet in RTÉ’s ‘What’s Next?’
A girl from Carlow is competing in a new RTÉ show called What’s Next?. Kate Butler, age 12, is from Barrowville, Kilkenny Road, Carlow. The show brings together children from across Ireland to find ideas that could save the planet.
Influencers Adam Beales, Demi Isaac Oviawe, and MC Fitzpatrick help the children develop their ideas. Fionn Ferreira, a young inventor, judges their projects. Each episode has a different theme, including fashion, food, waste, transport, and homes. Kate participates in the transport episode with her idea: Food Fuel Scooters, which use leftovers as fuel for school journeys.
The show ends with a competition where top ideas compete to become the What’s Next? series champions. The winners receive a golden brainbox and get to present their ideas to a mystery millionaire investor.
Kate is a first-year student at St Leo’s College. She is the daughter of David and Paula Butler and has an older brother named Noel. Her family is proud of her achievements on What’s Next?.
Kate is busy as a member of Spotlight Stage School. She will perform for the Late Late Toy Show on December 6 and is part of this year’s Olympia Christmas pantomime, Freezin’. Kate is represented by SRL Talent Management, led by Shauna Ray Lacey from Carlow.
What’s Next? is produced by HopSkip Studios with support from RTÉ, Coimisiún na Meán, and Northern Ireland Screen. The six-part series airs on RTÉ2 every Thursday at 5:30 PM and is also available on the RTÉ Player.
