Castillo de Arena: Minimalist Boutique Hotel on Mexico’s Stunning Coast
Castillo de Arena: A Minimalist Hotel on Mexico’s Coast
Castillo de Arena is a boutique hotel located in Punta Zicatela, Puerto Escondido, Mexico. Architect Alberto Kalach and designer Susana Pantoja designed this hotel to highlight its coastal environment. The hotel sits just two blocks from the Pacific Ocean, providing a peaceful retreat.
Architectural Features
The hotel consists of three three-story brick towers arranged around a central courtyard. This design respects the existing landscape by preserving two large trees. The courtyard features reclaimed stone paving and multiple water elements, creating a calming atmosphere enhanced by the sound of flowing water.
Interior Design
Castillo de Arena offers ten minimalist rooms. The design focuses on simplicity, comfort, and natural light. Local materials and textiles enhance the connection to the surroundings. Each room promotes relaxation and airflow, enhancing the guest experience.
Amenities
Guests can enjoy a communal pool with a mosaic of tiles that reflects light throughout the day. This dynamic effect changes the visual appearance of the pool at different times. While the hotel does not have a full restaurant, it contains Los Zanates, a café-bar open to guests and the public.
