The shift toward casual dining is reshaping how consumers approach table settings, with historic brands embracing relaxed aesthetics to appeal to younger generations. This evolution reflects broader lifestyle changes where imperfection and everyday usability are valued over formal rigidity in home entertaining.

Aerin Lauder observed this trend during the launch of her wedding registry, noting that modern couples increasingly seek dishes designed for daily use rather than reserved for special occasions. “The world of entertaining and living has become very lifestyle and a bit more casual. I think when people are registering now for weddings…it might not be for super-fine China. It’s dishes that you want to use every day [or] a table that’s not perfect. I think that is the new trend,” she told WWD.

This sentiment is echoed in recent campaigns by heritage brands adapting their messaging to contemporary sensibilities. Ginori 1735 partnered with creative agency Al Dente Paris on “The New Table Manners,” a whimsical series that reinterprets traditional etiquette through playful scenarios. Centered around the Maison’s Diva porcelain collection, the campaign uses seasonal chapters tied to calendar moments — beginning with “Back to School” — to depict joyful chaos and challenge expectations around the use of fine tableware.

Similarly, German flatware manufacturer Pott collaborated with architect and designer Charlotte Taylor of Matter and Shape in Paris to create a scenographic installation unveiled in March. The project, photographed by Mickaël Llorca, presents tableware in informal, lived-in contexts — featuring elements like spilled milk, smartphone wires, and wrinkled linens — to reflect real-life domestic moments rather than idealized presentations.

These initiatives align with a broader movement among luxury tableware houses including Royal Copenhagen, Alessi, Buccellati, Casarialto, and Frette, all of which are emphasizing versatility and ease in their latest offerings. By showcasing table settings that feel authentic and accessible, these brands aim to meet consumers where they are — prioritizing comfort, personal expression, and the integration of beautiful objects into daily routines.

As social media continues to influence perceptions of home aesthetics, the rejection of rigid formalism in favor of lived-in elegance signals a lasting change in how luxury is experienced at the table. The focus has shifted from preservation to participation, inviting users to engage with design not as spectators but as active participants in their own domestic narratives.
