Sokcho Marine Police Conduct Surfboard Rescue Training
On September 6th, the Sokcho Marine Police Station conducted ‘surfboard rescue training’ at Songjiho Beach in Gosung, Gangwon-do, to enhance their rescue capabilities.
The training, which involved 30 participants, mainly police officers from the Sokcho Coast Guard, focused on strengthening their ability to rescue drowning victims.
The training covered various topics, including surfboard operation and rescue methods, surfboard rescue techniques, and first aid for cardiac arrest patients.
The training also included responding to surfing accidents and preparing for potential accidents that may occur.
Go Ji-eun, head of the Sokcho Coast Guard water leisure division, stated, “We conducted training at a beach where a fatal accident occurred in the summer to provide realistic training. Through this training, we will secure the golden time for rescuing drowning victims through rapid rescue activities.”
The surfboard rescue method has the advantage of being safer and faster than swimming, as it allows the drowning person to be rescued by placing them on a surfboard. This method can also overcome terrain obstacles that are difficult for coastal rescue boats to access, such as shallow waters.
