Cate Blanchett Voices Concerns Over AI’s Impact While Promoting New Film “Rumours”
Australian actress Cate Blanchett expressed her concerns about the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) in an interview with the BBC. She stated that she does not understand the benefits of robots and driverless cars. Blanchett, who is 55 years old, was promoting her new film “Rumours,” which is an apocalyptic comedy featuring world leaders trapped in a forest.
Blanchett worries about the future of humanity, saying the threat of AI is significant as it can replace people easily. She noted that if someone records their voice for a few seconds, it can be duplicated. She criticized AI advancements as “experimentation for its own sake,” acknowledging that while it can promote creativity, it can also cause harm.
In “Rumours,” Blanchett portrays the Chancellor of Germany. She emphasized that the political characters in the film are not based on real figures. The film’s director, Guy Maddin, chose not to reveal the characters’ ideologies, allowing viewers to interpret the message themselves. He created the characters out of contempt but highlighted how their absurd situations make them relatable as they lose their political identities.
Blanchett commented on the disconnect between politicians and reality. She pointed out that they often seem lost, influenced by the systems that support them.
