Cauca Agreement: Social Prosperity begins comprehensive care for 150 Afro-Colombian households – La Campana Newspaper
The beneficiaries are households from the municipality of Guachené and belong to the Community Council of the Black Community of Pílamo de Palenque.
Social Prosperity started a new implementation of the Iraqa program, which will benefit 150 Afro-Colombian households in Cauca.
Iraqa is a Social Prosperity programme, which contributes to transforming the conditions of exclusion and vulnerability of ethnic communities: it facilitates opportunities to generate income, promotes access to self-consumption food and enriches social and community organisation.
The investment of the program in the department is 881 million pesos, to add social offerings to the agreement for transformation and peace in that territory. In this operation, the program is aimed at households from ethnic communities, who are in a situation of extreme poverty, vulnerability or at risk of physical or cultural extinction. Cauca’s beneficiaries are in Guachené and belong to the Black Community Council of Pílamo de Palenque.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is the collaborating partner for the development of this phase of the programme.
How will it develop?
The program will have three components: social and community strengthening, food security and production of agro-productive surpluses. It will provide incentives in kind, with a process of accompaniment in meetings and visits to participating homes, where it will work to strengthen capacity for the sustainability of the projects.
Each household will receive input for the development of a comprehensive project per collective territory, which will be drawn up with the ethnic authorities and households of the communities targeted by the program. The input values are:
– For food security: 906,000 pesos per family unit.
– For the production of agricultural surpluses: 2,570,000 pesos per family unit, group or group.
