Cauly Oliveira is set to continue his career with Brazilian powerhouse São Paulo, moving on loan from Bahia until the end of the 2026 season. The deal, finalized on February 12th, includes a mandatory purchase clause that could see São Paulo acquire 50% of his economic rights for €2 million (approximately $2.16 million USD), contingent on the midfielder making at least 25 appearances this year.

Bahia will also receive an additional €500,000 (approximately $540,000 USD) simply for the loan itself. Further incentives are built into the agreement: an additional €600,000 (approximately $648,000 USD) and a further €500,000 (approximately $540,000 USD) are contingent on Cauly reaching 40 appearances from 2027 onwards and achieving specific performance-based or team success milestones, respectively. If all clauses are met, Bahia stands to gain a total of €4 million (approximately $4.32 million USD) and retain 25% of the player’s economic rights.

The move comes after São Paulo had previous offers rejected by Bahia in January. The change of heart from Bahia appears to be driven by the financial benefits offered by the revised deal. The 30-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder joined Bahia in early February 2023, having previously played for Ludogorets in Bulgaria.

Cauly’s time with Ludogorets, which began with a transfer from German side Paderborn in January 2020, saw him become a key figure in the Bulgarian league. He registered 19 goals in 72 appearances in the Bulgarian First League over nearly three seasons, contributing to three league titles for the club. His performances earned him recognition as a dynamic and influential player in midfield.

Since arriving at Bahia, Cauly has featured in 82 matches, scoring 9 goals. He quickly established himself as an important player for the club, demonstrating the qualities that attracted São Paulo’s attention. The loan move represents a significant opportunity for Cauly to showcase his abilities on a larger stage with one of Brazil’s most prominent clubs.

The financial structure of the deal highlights Bahia’s strategic approach to player transfers. While initially reluctant to part with Cauly, the club ultimately recognized the value of the financial package offered by São Paulo. The combination of an immediate loan fee, a mandatory purchase clause and performance-based incentives provides Bahia with a substantial return on their investment in the player.

São Paulo will be hoping Cauly can make an immediate impact as they look to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season. The attacking midfielder’s creativity, passing range, and goal-scoring ability could prove to be valuable assets for the club. His ability to adapt to a new league and contribute to São Paulo’s attacking play will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike.

Transfermarkt currently values Cauly at €4.5 million (approximately $4.86 million USD) as of January 2026, a figure that reflects his growing reputation, and potential. His initial transfer to Bahia from Ludogorets in February 2023 was valued at €2.3 million (approximately $2.48 million USD), demonstrating a significant increase in his market value in a relatively short period.

The loan agreement with São Paulo provides a clear pathway for Cauly to continue his development and potentially secure a permanent move to one of Brazil’s biggest clubs. For Bahia, the deal represents a financially sound outcome, allowing them to capitalize on the player’s value while retaining a stake in his future success. The move underscores the increasing financial complexities of player transfers in South American football, with clubs prioritizing both sporting and economic considerations.
