CC and Amber Sabathia Discuss Life After MLB and the PitCCh In Foundation

As the New York Yankees retire his iconic No. 52, retired pitcher CC Sabathia and his wife, Amber Sabathia, are looking back at post-MLB life and their community efforts through the PitCCh In Foundation. Sabathia concluded a 19-season Major League Baseball career in 2019, establishing himself as one of the most durable lefties of his generation before stepping away from the mound.
The couple established the PitCCh In Foundation in 2008 during a major period of transition for the family, as CC Sabathia handled a major free agency decision without knowing which city he would call home next. Amber Sabathia told Entrepreneur that the organization was created to ensure monetary donations made a true change rather than simply writing checks. Having grown up in a Boys & Girls Club, CC Sabathia structured the foundation’s mission around enriching the lives of youth through educational and athletic activities.
CC Sabathia joked to Entrepreneur that the foundation has always functioned as his “fifth child,” noting that it fit naturally into his family life and now occupies more of his time in retirement. Amber Sabathia emphasized that giving back was something they had talked about for years, aimed at showing up for kids and their communities. Today, the foundation operates three signature programs: the All-Star Baseball Clinic, the Youth Backpack Program, and Field Renovations.
Fundraising efforts include the Sabathia Shootout, which recently marked its sixth anniversary. Serving as a premier event for PitCCh In, the Golf Classic unites a wide array of sports and entertainment figures connected to CC throughout his professional journey. Participants at the most recent classic included Michael Strahan, Angie Martinez, J.R. Smith, Gary Sheffield, Ja Rule, Matt Barnes, and Dellin Betances. Despite the celebrity turnout, CC Sabathia stated that he takes the greatest pride in seeing the kids from different Boys & Girls Clubs and the Bronx Knights grow over the years.

Amber Sabathia noted that advising athletes on decisions that affect their family, their future, and their legacy demands deep listening and trust from players.
