Cooley Dickinson Hospital to Train Medical Students

NORTHAMPTON – Cooley Dickinson Hospital (CDH) is launching an academic affiliation with Quinnipiac University’s frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine. The partnership will bring medical students to the hospital for the first time, officials said.
Starting in September, third-year medical students will participate in clinical rotations in core specialties, including psychiatry and emergency medicine. Hospital officials see the move as a commitment to education,training,and clinical excellence. quinnipiac will assist with student housing.Clinical faculty and advanced practise providers will receive academic appointments.
QU netter, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, emphasizes community engagement and building a primary care workforce. Its curriculum integrates science with clinical skills training. Cooley Dickinson faculty can participate in professional growth workshops and educational events.
Dr. Sundeep “Sunny” Shukla, vice president of Medical affairs and associate chief medical officer at CDH, helped launch the affiliation.He also serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Quinnipiac.Shukla said the collaboration will train future physicians and build a strong academic habitat.
“This is an critically important step forward,” Shukla said. “Our affiliation with QU Netter helps us invest in our people…while advancing high-quality care for our community.”
Dr. lisa Coplit, interim dean at Quinnipiac, said Cooley Dickinson’s patient-centered care made it a welcome clinical partner. The affiliation expands the geographic and clinical diversity of student training, she said.
“Together,we are building a dynamic learning environment that prepares future physicians to lead with empathy,excellence,and a commitment to improving access to care for all communities,” Coplit said.
