CDS Warns of “Silent Drama” at SEN’EAU – LACTUACHO.COM
Senegal Water Crisis deepens as Union leader Hospitalized During Hunger Strike
A deepening crisis at Senegal’s national water company, SEN’EAU, has prompted serious concern from the Confederation for Democracy and Socialism (CDS). The situation escalated with Oumar Bâ, Secretary General of the Autonomous Union of Water Workers of Senegal (SATECS), beginning a hunger strike on November 28, 2025, and subsequently being hospitalized in critical condition.
CDS Calls for Inquiry into SEN’EAU Management
In a press release issued on October 5, 2025, the CDS formally called on the Senegalese government to launch a thorough investigation into the management practices at SEN’EAU. The party specifically cited concerns regarding a lack of clarity and potential risks associated with the transfer of SEN’EAU shares to foreign entities. These allegations suggest a possible shift in control of a vital national resource.
The CDS has voiced its support for Oumar Bâ and the SATECS union in their efforts to address these concerns. Though, the party simultaneously urged Bâ to suspend his hunger strike, emphasizing the importance of preserving his health while advocating for change. The situation highlights the precarious balance between protest and personal well-being in the face of perceived governmental inaction.
The hospitalization of a key labor leader underscores the urgency of addressing the issues at SEN’EAU. Further investigation is needed to determine the validity of the CDS’s claims and to ensure the sustainable and equitable management of Senegal’s water resources.
