West Hollywood became an independent city on Nov. 29, 1984. A diverse group of LGBTQ activists, seniors, and renters led the grassroots movement for cityhood. Their goal was to create a city focused on tenant rights and social fairness.
In its 40 years, West Hollywood has set an example for other cities in various areas. It has promoted LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability. The city is also known for its efforts in HIV/AIDS advocacy, programs for aging residents, and community arts initiatives.
Join the celebration and be part of this historic moment in West Hollywood!
