Young animators in preschool and elementary school can submit their projects for free. Individual and group submissions are open to college and professional animators only. The goal is to inspire a vibrant community of animators and showcase their work.
Founder and Vision
Wallis Liu, a digital artist and 3D animator, founded the festival. His animated short, Unconditional Love, won 56 international awards. He emphasizes social issues in his projects. Liu is the executive director of NYSAF and serves as a judge for the Cultural Animation Film Festival (CAFF).
The festival aims to be a recognized venue for emerging animators. Liu highlights the frequent screening opportunities as a key feature of NYSAF. Each submission is introduced on the festival’s social media, ensuring all efforts are acknowledged.
Festival Timeline
The 2024 edition of NYSAF is currently in progress. The festival has four seasonal deadlines throughout the year, with online screenings for each round. Award recipients will be announced at an in-person event in New York City.
