Among the most visible figures embracing the challenge is pop star Harry Styles, who completed the Tokyo Marathon in 3:24:07 in early 2025 before improving to a sub-3-hour finish in Berlin later that year with a time of 2:59:13. Styles has cited Haruki Murakami’s memoir What I Talk About When I Talk About Running as a key inspiration, describing marathon training as a meditative practice akin to creating electronic music. “When you’re training for a marathon, which is the loneliest part, you just kind of set out for a run, and three hours later you come back,” he told Runner’s World. “But there’s a real synergy between that and electronic music.
