Celeste López Arrested for Attempted Homicide in Golf Course Attack on Woman
Incident Summary
Celeste Lorena López, 44, was arrested on Friday for attempted homicide after an incident at a golf course in Pinamar. Judge Daviv Mancielli ordered her transfer to Villa Gesell’s DDI.
Evidence Collected
Authorities seized 32 golf clubs, a golf glove, trousers, and a shirt from López’s home. These items match clothing seen in videos of the attack on Silvia Lo’Presti, 61. Prosecutor Juan Pablo Calderón believes the actual weapon used in the attack may have been discarded.
Details of the Attack
The attack occurred on November 19 while Lo’Presti was walking with a friend. According to Calderón, the assault stopped when a neighbor intervened and began recording the incident. López, who was with Mariano Girini, the pharmacy owner, has not been charged.
López’s Statement
During her interrogation, López claimed she was innocent and suggested that Lo’Presti had attacked her first, using racist insults. She argued she was merely trying to shield herself by swinging a golf club.
Injuries and Aftermath
Lo’Presti sustained minor injuries but is undergoing neurological assessments due to psychological trauma. Witnesses reported that López’s blows targeted vital areas, including the head and neck.
Legal Considerations
López is currently charged with minor injuries, but her lawyer, Juan Sebastián Tamagno, indicated that the case could include charges related to classist hatred based on statements made during the attack.
Victim’s Account
Lo’Presti described the aggressions, noting that she and her friend were verbally attacked with insults regarding their social status. She expressed concern over her health and emotional state, stating that she will return to Pinamar only after fully recovering.
