International Corridors Hit by Widespread Cancellations
The outage halted key rail links including the Lausanne–Genève and Lausanne–Yverdon-les-Bains corridors. Major international and domestic routes, such as TGV, EuroCity, InterCity, and Regional services, faced widespread cancellations and delays throughout Thursday evening, according to Le Temps.
Passengers traveling between Lausanne and Neuchâtel or Bienne were rerouted through Bern.
Emergency Bus Deployment Battles Highway Congestion
To mitigate the gridlock, CFF deployed replacement buses starting at 19:30 local time on Thursday, though operations faced heavy congestion.
According to Keystone-ATS reporting cited by Le Temps, the first buses arrived in Morges around 21:00 due to severe traffic bottlenecks on the adjacent A1 motorway between Allaman and Préverenges. Vaud police confirmed that highway traffic returned to normal around 20:15 on Thursday.
CFF Warns Commuters of Residual Delays
While CFF announced that normal operations have resumed, the transport operator warned commuters that minor residual delays and isolated train suppressions remain possible as schedules restabilize across the network.
