Chinese motorcycle manufacturer CFMOTO is set to disrupt the European adventure motorcycle market with the launch of its 1000 MT-X model in spring 2026, positioning it as a direct and more affordable competitor to established leaders like Honda’s Africa Twin.
The 1000 MT-X will be available in Germany starting in spring 2026 at an introductory price of 9,999 euros, which is approximately 11,800 U.S. Dollars. This pricing places it significantly below the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin, which starts at 16,449 euros in the same market, according to verified market comparisons.
Powering the 1000 MT-X is a liquid-cooled 946 cc parallel twin engine with double overhead camshaft (DOHC) valve timing, producing 83 kW (112 horsepower) at 8,500 rpm and delivering a peak torque of 105 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The engine is based on the KTM 890 Adventure platform and meets Euro V+ emissions standards.
The motorcycle features a six-speed gearbox equipped with a bidirectional quickshifter and a multi-plate wet clutch. CFMOTO reports a fuel consumption rate of 4.6 liters per 100 kilometers and CO₂ emissions of 108 g/km, with a top speed of 208 km/h (129 mph).
For handling and braking, the 1000 MT-X uses premium components: a fully adjustable 48 mm upside-down fork from KYB at the front and a matching KYB monoshock at the rear, both offering 230 mm of travel. The braking system is supplied entirely by Brembo, ensuring high-performance stopping power.
The frame is constructed from tubular steel, while the rear swingarm uses an aluminum alloy in a twin-spar design. These specifications are intended to deliver a balance of durability, agility, and comfort suited for both paved and off-road conditions in the adventure touring segment.
CFMOTO’s strategy centers on offering high-end components and competitive performance at a price point that undercuts not only the Africa Twin but also other mid-range adventure bikes. The company aims to attract buyers who may be hesitant due to perceptions of Chinese manufacturing by emphasizing the use of globally recognized parts and engineering derived from established platforms.
Industry analysts note that the 1000 MT-X’s entry into the market could intensify pressure on traditional manufacturers to justify premium pricing, particularly as consumers increasingly evaluate value-for-money in the adventure motorcycle category. The model’s launch follows its unveiling at the EICMA 2024 motorcycle show, where it generated attention for its specifications and pricing approach.
