Chadwick Under Fire: Allies Turn on Minister Over Ties to Embattled Hermosilla
Andrés Chadwick Under Fire: UDI Questions His Ties to Luis Hermosilla
Former minister Andrés Chadwick is facing mounting pressure as his own party, the UDI, raises concerns about his connections to lawyer Luis Hermosilla in the Audios case.
UDI Deputy Speaks Out
Deputy Cristian Labbé expressed his thoughts on the matter, stating that Chadwick “could have a little more active participation in (clarifying) a problem that worries him.” Labbé emphasized that while Chadwick has not been convicted or charged, his actions “probably lack a certain generosity.”
Chadwick’s Response Under Scrutiny
Labbé acknowledged that Chadwick “owns to know how far he goes or not and what is the strategy to face this political problem and the possible judicial problem he has.” However, he stressed that those involved in the investigation, including Chadwick, should be more forthcoming with information.
“The person who is in the eye of the hurricane today should be generous with the overwhelming majority in favor, where he should not be dragged into that problem (…). The time is now, and I believe that in this way we can begin to legitimize the parties more and each one must answer for their actions,” Labbé said.
Jose Antonio Kast Weighs In
Jose Antonio Kast, leader of the Republican Party, shared Labbé’s sentiments, stating that “it is clear that situations are going to arise that will involve more officials from Sebastián Piñera’s government.” Kast emphasized that the public deserves to know the truth about Hermosilla’s influence in the previous government.
Ruling Party Responds
Camila Vallejo, spokeswoman for the ruling party, emphasized the need for transparency and clarification from those involved in the Audios case, including Andrés Chadwick. Vallejo stated that “the seriousness of this obviously guarantees that the responses of those pursuing the crime, which may be politically motivated, are always of the highest standards.”
Vallejo concluded that ”one would always expect, obviously, more transparency, clarification, statements” from those involved, adding that this is not only expected from the government but from any citizen of the country.
