On September 22, 2024, the Chumphon Provincial Administrative Organization held its chairman election, with villagers casting their votes for the sole candidate, Mr. Nopporn Usit, also known as “Chairman Tong.”
According to unofficial results, Chairman Tong secured 156,806 votes, accounting for 39.20% of the total number of voters. This outcome suggests that he has met the necessary conditions to retain the presidency, as outlined in the Local Council or Local Executive Election Act of 2019.
Section 111 of the Act states that in cases where there is only one candidate, the individual must receive more than 10% of the eligible votes and score higher than the “no candidate” option to be elected. With 99% of the votes counted, Chairman Tong appears to have fulfilled these requirements.
Chairman Tong, the former chairman of the Chumphon provincial administrative organization, had resigned from his post to run for another term. His re-election marks a significant milestone in the organization’s history.
