Champions League History Makers: Bayern Munich Unleashes Goal-Scoring Frenzy with Record-Breaking 9-Goal Thriller
Bayern Munich Makes History in Champions League with 9-2 Win Over Dinamo Zagreb
Bayern Munich became the first team in Champions League history to score 9 goals in a single match after beating Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 on Tuesday, marking a historic victory in the tournament opener.
The German league record holders maintained a long-standing tradition and celebrated victory in the tournament opener for the 21st time in the last 22 appearances, showcasing their dominance in the competition.
Harry Kane, who scored 4 goals (a super hat-trick), praised the team’s performance, saying, “It was a great match, and we put pressure on them from the start and took advantage of it. Overall it was an amazing night.”
Bayern ended the first half with a 3-0 lead, but Dinamo Zagreb scored two goals in two minutes early in the second half to make the score 3-2, briefly threatening the German side’s dominance.
However, Bayern quickly bounced back to claim the third-highest win in a European Champions League match, a match which Real Madrid won by 8 clean goals against Malmö in 2015 and Liverpool won by the same score against Besiktas in 2007.
Bavarian coach Vincent Kompany reflected on the team’s composure after conceding two goals, saying, “We kept our composure after conceding two goals. It was good. Actually, it shouldn’t have happened to us. We must work on it, but we kept our composure.”
Bayern’s CEO, Jan Christian Dressen, emphasized the importance of scoring as many goals as possible in the new tournament system, where teams compete in single-round leagues and the top eight teams qualify for the round of 16.
