CHAN 2025: The Countdown Begins – Africa’s Biggest Football Fiesta Set for February
African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025: Dates and Details Announced
CAF President Patrice Motsepe has officially announced the dates for the next African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from February 1 to 25, 2025.
The CHAN 2025 tournament will be the latest edition of the biennial competition, which has been delayed like the previous two editions. According to CAF President Patrice Motsepe, “The African football calendar is packed.”
Qualification Process
The qualifiers for CHAN 2025 will take place between October and December, with the first qualifications starting between October 21 and 27, as announced by Seidou Mbombo Njoya, CAF’s fourth vice-president.
New Eligibility Rules
A significant change in the CHAN 2025 tournament is the eligibility rules. Unlike previous editions, where only players from local championships were eligible, selections can now call on any player who plays on the African continent.
Stadium Preparations
CAF President Patrice Motsepe visited the three stadiums (Kasarani, Nyayo, and Talanta) that will host the CAN 2027 in Kenya. Kenyan President William Ruto assured that Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums will be ready by the end of this year for the CHAN 2025, while the Talanta Sports City stadium will be completed by December 2025 for CAN 2027.
