Changes to Christmas Social Welfare Payments: Key Dates and Updates

The Government has announced changes to social welfare payment dates during the Christmas period. These payments are part of a €2.2 billion cost-of-living package included in Budget 2025.

Here are the key payment details:

1. Payment Schedule:

   • Payments scheduled for December 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20 will proceed as usual.
   • Payments due on December 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27 will be processed during the week starting December 16.
   • Payments due on January 1 will instead be issued on December 31.

2. Jobseeker Payments:

   • Claimants with advance dockets will receive two payments on December 20 for the signing weeks ending December 17 and December 24 (Jobseeker’s Allowance) or December 18 and December 25 (Jobseeker’s Benefit).

3. Payment Resumption:

   • Normal payment arrangements will resume on January 7, 2025.

4. Office Closures:

   • All Department of Social Protection offices will be closed on Christmas Day, St. Stephen’s Day, and New Year’s Day.

5. Christmas Bonus:

   • A Christmas bonus equal to one normal weekly payment will be paid the week starting December 2 to eligible long-term social welfare recipients. The minimum bonus is €20.

6. Double Child Benefit:

   • A double child benefit was paid on November 5 and will have another payment on December 3. Parents of children born after December 1 will receive a Newborn Baby Grant of €280.

7. Child Support Payment (CSP):

   • A €100 bonus will be paid to child support grant recipients starting the week of November 25.
8. Energy Credit:
   • All domestic electricity customers will receive €250 off their bills in two installments of €125. The first payment occurred between November 1 and December 31, while the second will be issued between January 1 and February 28.
