Charles Rangel, the longtime congressman from Harlem and the last surviving member of the influential “Gang of Four,” has died. He was 94.
Rangel, a key figure in New York politics, served 23 terms in the House of Representatives. He was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus. In 1974, Rangel took office, defeating Rev. Adam Clayton Powell Jr. He later became chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee in 2007.
